Holiday Activity and Food

The Holiday Activity and Food activities are available to view on the City of York Council's website. These are a mix of fun and exciting activities to do during the school holidays. A meal is also provided.

The activities are for families who are in receipt of free school meals. From Monday 26 July, at the start of the school holidays, parents and carers of eligible children should book directly with the activity provider. Parents ad carers should let the provider know if they are in receipt of benefits related Free School Meals.

Summer Reading Challenge 2021

green wild world heroes artWild World Heroes is this year's summer reading challenge theme. By taking part in the Challenge for free in Explore Libraries or online, children can join six fictional characters – ‘wild heroes’ – to help solve some of the threats to our natural world, and learn about the importance of the environment while helping to restore nature in ‘Wilderville’.

Starts: Saturday 17 July until Saturday 11 September 2021

Explore Libraries

There's a mixture of crafts. modelling, character creating,  Hoglets Theatre performances 'Sea storm in a Teacup' and 'The Hare in The Moon' plus much, much more!

Arts Award

York Explore Libraries and Archives, York Art Gallery, York Army Museum and All Saints, North Street are offering children to take part in three in person on online activities to gain Arts Award Discover. Children will find out about an artist or crafts person and then share what they have found at the Big Share event held between 1pm - 4pm (drop in at any time) on Wednesday 01 September in the Marriott Room at York Explore Library or between 1pm and 3pm on Sunday 05 September in the Sensory Garden at the rear of York Art Gallery.

EborActum Kids Workshops

Each programme is designed for children aged 7 - 11 years. Get stuck in to crafts, games and drama exercises to enhance children's performance and confidence skills while creating enjoyable memories. The full 5 day program will finish with a short performance devised by the children taking part.

Alice in Wonderland

Follow Alice down the rabbit hole as Same Difference Arts present this brand new production of Alice in Wonderland.

This energetic and hilarious re-telling of the iconic story finds Alice in a world of wonder. Alice encounters the unforgettable Mad Hatter, a fuzzy White Rabbit, the mean queen of Hearts and many more fantastic characters. Let’s help Alice can grow in confidence and find her way home.

Wildlife Academy @ the Zoo is a chance for 8-15 year olds to learn all about animals and nature in Askham Bryan's Wildlife Park and Animal Management Unit.

Nature Adventurers: Summer Programme

St Nick's Nature Reserve logoSt Nick's summer programme is designed for families who have children aged 0 - 10 years old (accompanied with an adult to max of 3 kids per adult).

Learn new skills and crafts such as den building, foraging, campfire cooking, woodland crafts, storytelling and more!

Bushcraft & Activities

National Railway Museum

Summer Fun at York Museums Trust

This Summer, from 18th July to 6th September; come and enjoy some great events and activities at York Castle Museum, the Yorkshire Museum and York Art Gallery, which reopens on 1 August.

At the Yorkshire Museum find out about Jorvik Life and take part in some great Viking activities.

Over at York Castle Museum you can find out all about the how rich and poor Victorians lived in York, discover what they liked to eat and even help them with their chores on our recreated Victorian street, Kirkgate.

York Art Gallery is also reopening on 1 August after its £8m redevelopment.

As well as being able to see brand new exhibitions and a transformed gallery space there is also the opportunity to take part in various activities in the new studio throughout August.

York City Knights Future Knights

The York City Knights Foundation are set for their busiest summer ever, delivering over 60 FREE sessions in and around York. With the aim of not only encouraging activity and promoting rugby league around the city, but to also provide fun and enjoyment for children.

Activities will range from inflatable sessions; mobile skatepark sessions; rugby sessions and multi sports sessions.

Jewel of York Trail

Askham Bryan Wildlife Park have hidden 8 giant beetles around York. See if you can find them!

The trail is available until Friday 13 August, after which the beetles will return to Askham Bryan Wildlife Park.
