Down the Line Sports - Summer Tennis Programme

Throughout the school holidays we are offering a Summer Tennis Programme for ages 5-16 yr olds at York St John Sports Park (located on Haxby Road opposite the Nestle Factory). Split into 2 sessions 9-12pm (5-10yrs) and 1-4pm (11-16yrs) these cater for all levels of player from the absolute beginner to the advanced player. Sessions can be booked from just one at a time or a full week. We work with low coach to pupil ratios meaning your young player has a fantastic learning experience all the while taking great care to provide a safe environment in the current climate.

Because our libraries aren’t open fully yet we are going virtual and you will be able to take part online. As well as the challenge there will be activities for you to do all on the same theme of fun, laughter and silliness. Phonics with Robot Reg

Preschool phonics activities for parents and their children to learn about letters and sounds in fun, upbeat and engaging ways. Robot Reg show children how to orally blend and segment the sounds too. Continue learning from home!

Classes are hosted via the Zoom platform

These are 40 minute sessions with lots of short, sharp activities to keep little ones engaged and learning without realising. 4 week block is £16 (£4 a class)

Age 2.5 - 4 

Minis class for children aged 12 months to 30 months.

Classes which encourage speech, language and vocabulary through fun, interactive play-based activities. Introducing sounds and pronunciation through songs and dances

Bringing nursery rhymes to life

Starting School Workshops

For children starting school in September 2020

A specially designed workshop of 4 sessions which are jam-packed. These introduce the first 6 sounds to children and show them how to blend and segment them. A fun, gentle way into phonics which gives children a little bit of preparation ready for school, helping to build confidence. Also helpful for parents to learn about phonics alongside their child. Price includes printable materials, a Parents guide to phonics and loads of follow up ideas and games to support at home. Delivered through Zoom.

Reading Fairy York

Summer specials and 'Get Set for School' Early Literacy course 

Reading Fairy York is delivering online classes for 1-5 year olds. Our live, interactive classes include; storytelling, phonics, speaking and listening activities, action songs, nursery rhymes and shared book time. Our Summer festival sessions will focus on a popular children's story and will cost £4 per family (book one or more through the Summer). 

Reading Fairy is also launching a 'Get Set for School' course over the Summer to prepare children for starting school in September. A qualified primary school teacher will be delivering the sessions to small, online groups. Children will learn early literacy skills to prepare them for school and parents will learn how to support their children's development. The course will include a synthetic phonics programme, storytelling skills and vocabulary development, as well as activities to prepare children emotionally. An activity book is included in the course. There will be lots of active learning and songs too.

Natural History Museum

Lots of arts, crafts and information about dinosaurs and wildlife, which you can get stuck in to in the comfort of your own home. Wet, cold and miserable day? (well it is the British summer weather!) or too hot and needing a bit of a cooler and quiet time (we can never predict the weather can we?!) then visiting the Natural History Museum webpages for inspiration on activities could be just the place to visit find out how to grow your own cress caterpillar, make a volcano at home or you could print off your own colouring in sheets and so much more!

(well it is the British summer weather!) or too hot and needing a bit of a cooler and quiet time (we can never predict the weather can we?!) then visiting the Natural History Museum webpages for inspiration on activities could be just the place to visit find out how to make your own exhibition activity, make your own nature journal, make a simple butterfly feeder and so much more!

Lollipop Online Bingo Party 21 August 7pm

Online bingo night for Lollipop members and their families on Zoom.  This is our second bingo party and a fun way to spend an evening with the Lollipop Community.  Prizes to be won! Members will receive an email to join the event.

The Wilberforce Trust – Club Wilber

Club Wilber exists to support children and young people in York who have a visual impairment and their families. Bringing up a family is rewarding, joyful, hard work, frustrating and many other things at times. If one of your children is blind or has a visual impairment, it can be a lot more complicated. The joy and the fun is still there but it can be really hard to find things that you can do as a family. Most attractions are designed for fully sighted people and visually impaired children are often left on the side-lines. If your child has a visual impairment and you would like to become a Club Wilber member and sign up to our activities then please do get in touch. Membership is free, but there is also an option to pay for our membership package which includes gifts and discounts.
