Fun Things to do at Home this Halloween

Pom Pom Pumpkins

You will need:

yarn, glue, felt, pom pom maker, scissors

  • pom pom maker (pr cardboard to make your own)
  • Yarn
  • felt
  • glue
  • scissors

wrap yarn around pom pom makerUsing a pom pom maker wrap coloured yarn around the pom pom maker and ensuring the whole pom pom maker is covered. Wrap around as much as you like until you are happy with the amount of wraps completed. leaving about 2 cm of yarn cut.

wrap around both sidesRepeat on the other half of the pom pom maker and again cut excess yarn, leaving about a length of 2cm. This will be trimmed later.

 

 

cut yarnUsing scissors, find the slit where the two halves of the pom pom maker meet and carefully cut along. Repeat on the other side.

 

 

 

tie yarn to link both halvesTake a length of yarn, roughly 30 cms but bare in mind you might want to use this to hang your pumpkin up, and slot the yarn through the gap in the pom pom maker and cross the ends of each other and pull to create a knot. Repeat about 5 times, to make the 2 halves of the pom pom secure.

Cut out eyes and a mouth from felt and glue in to place.

Milk bottle ghosts

What you will need    

  • empty milk cartons
  • scissors
  • dark coloured felt tip pen
  • battery lights
  1. clean out old milk cartons and leave them to dry
  2. you will need scissors or a grown up to help you to pierce hole at the back of the carton and you should be able to cut  3 sides of a small square in the back
  3. using a dark felt pen draw faces for each of your ghosts.  
  1. You can use an old set of christmas lights or a set of battery operated micro lights and thread these into the back of the cartons .
  2. Arrange your ghostly display in your room or frighten your family with them!

Spiderweb 

what you need to make a spider web stciks, wool and scissorsWhat you will need: 

  • sticks
  • white yarn
  • scissors

Create a star shape with the sticks.

Tie yarn around the sticks, wrapping the yarn around several times, making a knot to keep the sticks secure. 

 

wool wrapped around sticksWorking from the centre outwards, weave the yarn over one stick and under, and do the same to the next stick, working towards you.

Repeat, weaving the yarn under and over backwards working your way outwards along the sticks, until you reach the end. Tie a knot and leave a length of yarn so you can hang the spiderweb. Cut at desired length.

Monsters

tissue box monstersWhat you will need:

  • empty tissue box
  • card
  • scissors
  • glue
  • pencil

1. Draw the body parts for your monster: hands, feet, ears, tail, teeth, eyes on to coloured card

2. Cut out the body parts you have drawn,

3. Stick on your empty tissue box 

4. you can use paint to colour the tissue box if you wish.
