Little Green Rascals Children's Organic Day Nursery

Day Nursery in Osbaldwick & Derwent, York

Set in a beautiful farmhouse, nestled in trees and open farmland, Elvington is home to the first and original Little Green Rascals Organic Day Nursery. Opened in July 2009 – Elvington cares for 99 children each day. Little Green Rascals are the first fully organic and eco-conscious children’s nurseries in the North of England. Our aim is to create a home from home environment whilst providing all things natural and organic – no added nasties in food or skincare. Our organic menus are freshly prepared in-house, daily by chefs and feature herbs and vegetables from our kitchen gardens. Our Toys and resources are made from natural and sustainable materials - even the electricity is sourced from an ethical supplier. We deliver inspiring and educational activities which help to nurture a child’s confidence, communication and relationships. Our Chief Rascals (Staff) are key and we invest heavily in training and development opportunities to contribute to a skilled team, which consists of Early Years Teachers, Early Years Professionals, Graduates and qualified staff. We are very fortunate to have such passionate and professional people as part of our Little Green Rascals family.

The nursery is managed by Amanda Cordingley and a team of highly qualified staff, who care for children aged from birth to 5 years old. The setting hosts 4 rooms - each a progression in age, which then follow the areas of learning and development set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (the Government Framework).

Fresh, organic produce is prepared daily on site by trained chefs and menus are rotated every 16 days to ensure that the children have variety.

Nappies, creams and ointments all remain organic or ethically sourced and where possible, homeopathic and natural remedies are used for minor ailments such as teething and snuffles.

Elvington is home to two imaginative and fun outside spaces, where children can play come rain or shine - wellies or sun hats. As well as this there is also private woodland nearby where the children regularly participate in Forest School activities - where children are encouraged to take calculated risks, use tools with guidance and explore the outdoor environment under supervision, all of which contribute to the children's confidence soaring and personalities thriving.

As well as Forest School, they also offer a range of optional extra-curricular activities such as Science classes, Yoga, Drama, French and Spanish lessons, ballet and lots of other sporty classes which are all great fun.

Parent/Carer partnerships are key at Little Green Rascals where they offer many avenues of communication such as newsletters, nursery software which is accessible by a smartphone and a very open door policy.
