Short Breaks (for Disabled Children)

Clifton, York

Most families with disabled children need a break from time to time. The Short Breaks service is about providing this break. It is a scheme run by us where fully trained adults look after a particular child on a regular basis in the child’s own home, in the Short Breaks Foster Carer’s home or doing an activity together in the community.

Caring for a disabled child can be challenging for families. Short Breaks can provide support for all the family by allowing the family to feel secure that their child is safe and enjoying new and positive experiences with their Short Breaks Carer or Worker. The care can be anything from a few hours to a few days a month and is part of a regular and supported package of care for the disabled child and their family. These family or community based short-breaks give disabled children the opportunity to make new friends, gain independence and broaden their horizons whilst giving their families a break from caring.
