Starting Secondary School (11 - 16 years)

Starting secondary school is an important and exciting time for every young person as they become more independent and have more choices and increased opportunities. It should be a time for fun, new friends, broader learning and personal development. However, it may also be a daunting time for some families. Parents and carers are aware that their child is growing up and will soon be a teenager. There are lots of things to get used to. There are new ways to do things, a larger school to find their way around, a wider range of staff and different expectations.

There are many things that you and your child can do to make the move from primary school a smooth process. Use this page to talk to your child about moving to secondary school and involve them in the process.
