Our vision

We need to ensure that our children and young peoples workforce has the support, information and skills required to be able to provide a professional service to the children, young people and families with whom they work. Our aim is to develop a skilled, confident and competent children's workforce who can work in partnership with agencies, carers, families and communities to support children and young people to reach their full potential and live safe, happy and fulfilled lives.

The skills, knowledge and understanding of employees are critical to delivering high quality care and education to children and young people in the city. The Workforce Development Unit will continue to seek and commission high quality development opportunities to support practitioners in making a difference to the children and families they support.

We will achieve this through:

  4. Knowing what we need from our future workforce

The Children's Workforce Strategy has been developed and agreed by our partners within the private; voluntary and independent sector and outlines our key priorities which reflect both local and national challenges. 

The Workforce Development Unit provides a delivery mechanism for high quality and accessible training for the Children's workforce in York. It is crucial that our workforce engage with ongoing professional development to ensure best practice.
