Young Apprenticeship
A Young Apprenticeship will give you a taste of real work whilst taking GCSEs at school. You will get 50 days of work experience with an employer, training provider or at college. These are spread over Years 10 and 11.
You will work towards a nationally recognised qualification, such as an NVQ, BTEC, or City & Guilds.
After Year 11 you can go on to a full Apprenticeship in the same area, or choose to do something different.
You need to have thought about what area of work you are interested before talking to your teachers about this option. Most schools and colleges have very limited places.
Hints and tips
- Not everyone will have the opportunity to do a Young Apprenticeship, so speak to your school to find out if it's an option.
- Most students find the chance to combine GCSEs with practical training offers them a good balance.
- A work placement could lead to future employment, or provide useful contacts/references.
