Introduction to Childcare course

Childminders are required to complete training which helps them to understand and implement the EYFS before Ofsted will register them. In York, we suggest the CACHE level 3 award 'Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare'. The training is accessed mainly online with various training organisations offering this award:

All newly proposed childminders in York are advised to complete the Safeguarding Basic Awareness course to fulfil the duty for practitoners to have basic awareness of different types of abuse, and the procedures to follow should they be worried a child is being abused or at risk of being abused. As a registered childcare provider you have a duty to protect children, yourself and your family and keep up to date with York’s Safeguarding Children’s Board guidance regarding child protection policies. Child Protection training should be updated at least every 3 years.

There are a number of different training providers across the city and nationally who offer childcare related qualifications.  It is your responsibility to ensure that they are of high quality and delivered by a reputable company.
