Play
York has always worked hard to ensure a balance of play, care and education for children and young people. Find out more about the Play Team and how they can support your setting.
Steps to Quality
Everyone wants the best quality childcare and education, but how can we make sure that this is what children are receiving? One way is through the Ofsted inspection which checks that a provider is meeting the National Daycare Standards of childcare and education. Another way is through quality assurance where the provider reviews their service against agreed quality standards.
There are a number of different quality assurance schemes. Many local authorities have developed their own quality assurance schemes to reflect local aims for childcare. These help to bring together all the different settings which work with children into a common vision of quality.
Our local scheme is called Steps to Quality. Steps to Quality has been developed by early years workers in the Yorkshire and Humber region, then adapted within different local authority areas and approved by the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships. Find out more about Steps to Quality.
Recruitment
Childcare Providers can access a lot of support with recruiting staff for Early Years settings through the Family Information Service. Find out more about recruitment and how to advertise a vacancy.
Training and Development
To support the Children's Workforce a single Training and Development Unit (TDU) have been formed. More information about what training is on offer through the TDU for childcare practitioners.
