Safeguarding children and young people

The City of York Safeguarding Board is a forum for how agencies can work together to protect children in York. They have an excellent website with information on training, procedures and what to do if you are concerned about a child.

How to keep safe

Safer York Partnership is a partnership of agencies working to make York a safer place at home, work and play. They also provided helpful information and advice on how you can reduce the chances of being a victim of crime.

Keeping safe on the internet

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) is goverment agency that works with parents, children and young people to safeguard them on the internet. They run an advice website called "Think U Know" which has lots of useful information on how to use the internet safely for people of different ages.

Bullying

Two groups of young people took over the YorOK website for Takeover Day in November 2009. They created a section about bullying. We hope you enjoy what they put together and find it useful.

The Childline website and helpline gives lots of information about what to do if you're being bullied. They offer a free 24 hour helpline on 0800 1111. Also see the service directory for local and national services to do with teenage pregnancy.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families runs the "Don't suffer in silence" website (opens in a new window). The site has information for everybody including young people, parents, carers or teachers.

There is also the new cybermentors website! If you're being bullied, or are feeling a bit low, or are maybe troubled by something and you're not sure what to do or who to talk to, then CyberMentors is where you can go for help.

Road Safety

The Department for Transport run several websites aimed at making roads safer. The main website is called "Think Road Safety" and they also run several smaller sites for different groups.

The council road safety team also has some good information on their website about road safety.
