Show me that I matter!

Why?

Because young people who are in foster care or children’s homes need to know that what they think and what they say MATTERS! The aim of the group is to make things better for all young people and children who are Looked After in York.

What?

Every month a group of young people who are (or have been) in care meet with some City of York Councillors. The City of York Council employs all the staff who work with children and young people in care. SO - the meetings between these Councillors and the young people are IMPORTANT! They talk about how things can be made better for Children and Young People who are Looked After. If questions need to be answered the staff involved are asked to attend a meeting to discuss things. Then they are asked what they can do about it. It sometimes take a while but usually there is a way of improving things.

Who?

Two members of the Council always attend. Some young people are regular members and others just come to see what happens or to talk about something that’s really important to them.
The people in charge of the meeting are the young people.

Where?

Usually Castlegate – just near the castle in the middle of York.

When?

Once a month at 5.15. Transport can be arranged and there are snacks during the meeting.

Want to come? – You’re welcome!
