'We provide specialist advice for a range of professionals working with young people from the Traveller and other minority ethnic communities.
To help address language or cultural needs that may create barriers to access, attendance and achievement we provide:
- Training/staff development to raise understanding of cultural diversity
- Cultural diversity awareness sessions for groups of students
- City-wide identification of groups of vulnerable learners- monitoring of attendance, exclusions, achievement
- Regular communications/updates of any relevant changes to legislation/guidance
- Support in identification and implementation of whole-school strategies to improve attendance, behaviour, achievement
- Home/school liaison
- 1 to 1 or group support in schools
- Specific time-limited projects to improve engagement/attendance/achievement e.g. curriculum related projects, homework clubs
- Support for early years- school readiness, enrolment, 1 to 1 or group support in Nursery, Reception and Y1.
- KS2-3 transition
- KS4 transition
We also offer advice on working with vulnerable learners from other minority ethnic groups, for example asylum seekers, and young people who are learning English as an Additional Language.
