Inclusion statement

All childcare and services should make reasonable adjustments to support disabled children and young people or those with additional needs. Below is a statement from this provider about their inclusive practice and levels of experience of supporting different needs

Little Acorns Day Nursery aims to have regard to the revised Code of Practice for nurseries on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs & disabilities, providing appropriate and welcoming learning opportunities for all children. Children with special needs & disabilities, as with all children are admitted to the nursery after consultation between parents, nursery manager and key person. If it is felt that the child’s needs cannot be met in the nursery without the support of a one to one key person, funding will be sought to hopefully employ an appropriate person. Our system of observation and record keeping, which operates in conjunction with parents, enables us to monitor children’s needs and progress on an individual basis

The SENCO attends whenever possible, training on SEND to ensure that they are up to date with all issues, procedures and policies. Little Acorns staff have been on the following courses: Qualities of an Early Year SENCO Talking with our hands Communication is more than words Picture Exchange Communication System Workshop 3 Day SENCO: The SEN Code of Practice Early Identification of SEN in the Early Years SENCO Responsibilities and Record Keeping Integrating children with SEN into your setting Making Practice Special – Small Steps Let’s wait and see Multi Sensory Play Disability Awareness Sign Language for beginners Makaton BSL Common Assessment Framework Training 2014 SEND code of practice updates Autism
