A HUGE big welcome to the first upload of School’s Out! for 2010!
It’s a whole new decade and we have lots in store throughout the year. We are busy working on a number of new initiatives and schemes that we hope will help many more people get busy and active with some great activities.
If you have been finding it difficult to access some of the activities in School's Out! then we are very pleased to say that there is a new initiative developing throughout the year called 'Me Too.' If you receive free school meals or if being unable to pay for an activity is stopping you taking part then you may be entitled to help with paying for after school activities, which will include lots of the activities you can find here. If you attend Westfield, Woodthorpe, Hob Moor or York High ask your school for more information now. If you attend another school look out more information on this exciting scheme as it is becomes available across the city from Easter.
Did you know? In 2010 City of York Council will aim to ensure that you are able to take up at least 10 hours of ‘cultural activities’ per week – every week! This could be 5 hours in school and 5 hours out of school. You will be able to find out about what you can do here in School’s Out! and on the web pages too. Whatever you are into or want to have a go at you can find information about what there is on offer in York!
There are some great new festivals and events being planned for the summer in 2010! With lots of great things to see and be involved in from drama and dance to music and new play opportunities, plus a new sporting festival where you can come and find a new physical activity to get you fit.
Got a bike? Then get a map and get out and about around York. These rides are suitable for cyclists of most ages and abilities, including families with children, and the routes are perfect for picnics.
We will bring you more information about all these great new projects and initiatives throughout 2010 – so keep checking back!
