“No-one trains you to be a parent, you are just expected to get on with it!”
“How do you know you’re getting things right?”
“My children just don’t listen to me!”
“I wish I had someone I could talk to”
Being a parent is probably the hardest job there is. It is often pleasurable and rewarding, but there are also times when it can feel exhausting, stressful, frustrating and overwhelming. The added pressures of life today can sometimes make parenthood feel difficult and isolating.
Asking for help is a sign of strength not of weakness.
Look for help whenever you feel you need it!
Don’t wait until things get really bad!
Meeting with other parents gives you the chance to share experiences and ideas, learn new skills, get advice and information and most importantly you will feel better equipped to cope.
A wide range of parenting courses, support groups and information are available across the city for parents and carers who are looking for tips, advice or support during the challenging time of raising children.
Discover Yourself
Discover Yourself is a training programme designed with Lone Parents in mind. Its aim is to help each person who attends the training to make realistic choices about how they can get more out of life.
