“Time Out for Teens”

Family Matters York, in partnership with Positive Parenting have trained teams of practitioners linked to a number of York’s secondary schools to offer mums, dads and carers taster parenting sessions and longer parenting courses. The sessions provide parents and carers with an insight into why adolescence is such a challenging time. The course provides a wealth of practical ideas to help parents cope, including understanding development tasks in adolescence, reflecting on your own experiences as a teenager, looking at the effects of different "parenting styles", boosting the relationship with your teenager, practicing communication & negotiation skills, looking at ways to handle common challenges and what to say about sex.

To find out where and when sessions near you are taking place ask at your child’s school.
