National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are awarded as proof of your ability to undertake the tasks of specific jobs to a certain level.
They are usually attained by assessment in the workplace.
They are available in 11 broad areas, from engineering to retail.
There are five levels with the opportunity for progression, eg NVQ1 = GCSE grades D to G, NVQ3 = A Level / BTEC National.
Hints and tips
- NVQs are made up of units that you take separately, so you can work at your own pace.
- There are no grades, you are either competent or not competent.
- If you are offered a job, check what kind of training you will be offered and what qualifications you will achieve.
