Intermediate Level
- Available at colleges and some school 6th forms.
- Entry requirements vary, but you are likely to need either a Foundation Level qualification, or some GCSEs – grades D to E. Check individual course requirements.
- Most courses are vocational, including Diplomas, and there are also GCSE re-sits such as the Freshstart course at York College. This offers students with 3+ grade Ds the opportunity to gain 5 GCSEs.
- Courses take a year to complete.
Hints and tips
- The colleges offer 'Taster Days' in addition to Open Days/Evenings. These are a great way to explore what the courses involve. Apply early through school, or contact the College direct.
- As most of these courses are vocational, it's important to think about what career areas interest you and research the courses carefully.
- If you want to re-sit maths or English GCSE to improve your grade, it may be possible to do this while taking an intermediate course.
