The MEND Programme is returning to York to help kids get fit for free

Great news for residents of York as the City of York Council is giving away places on another MEND Programme and giving more children and families the chance to become fitter, healthier and happier!

The MEND Programme is the largest national scheme for tackling childhood overweight and obesity and City of York Council is delighted to offer the third course to the area.

Children and families who have previously participated have achieved tremendous results.

Make time for play!

Play is an essential part of your child’s health and wellbeing as well as yours! It is so important to make time to play and at the same time be more active!

So next time you have a moment, take part in one of the activities with your kids and get your body moving! All use differing amounts of equipment—but what they have in common is they are all active and take little time to set up or organise.

CAMHS / Limetrees

Lime Trees is the name of the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service that works in the York and Selby area.

We see children and young people up to the age of 18 who have emotional or behavioural problems or other mental health difficulties—after all, there is no health without mental health.

We know that about 1 in 10 youngsters have these kinds of problems at some time in their lives.

Change 4 Life

These days, 'modern life' can mean that we're a lot less active.

With so many opportunities to watch TV or play computer games, and with so much convenience and fast food available, we don't move about as much, or eat as well as we used to, which means that 9 out of 10 kids today could grow up with dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies.

This can cause life-threatening diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease—so it’s really important that we do something about it.

Improving Health Together Factsheets

NHS North Yorkshire and York's Health Improvement Team produce a series of bi-monthly factsheets to support an annual programme of public health campaigns. Additional supporting information is available on each topic including key documents, local initiatives and further links, on the Staying Healthy section of the PCT website.
