Family Support & Parenting

Many parents say there are times when they would welcome more support. From pre-parenthood right through to becoming a grandparent, at home, at school or in the work place, there are times when everyone needs a little extra, information, advice or support in bringing up children.

York’s Parenting Strategy aims to ensure that all those in a parenting role are able to access information, advice and support when they need it. The parenting pages of this website provide you with useful information about parenting, whether you are a mum, a dad, a carer or a practitioner working with parents.

  • If you are a parent or a carer and looking for more information about what support is available then please click here.
  • If you are a practitioner working with parents or carers and want to find out more then please click here.

A part-time Parenting Co-ordinator, based in The YorOK Children’s Trust Unit, has been appointed to develop the Parenting Strategy by ensuring that the availability and quality of new and existing parenting services in York meet the needs of families locally. All parenting work is being developed in line with the Every Child Matters outcomes so that parents, carers and families:

  • promote healthy choices.
  • provide safe homes & stability.
  • support learning.
  • promote positive behaviour.
  • are supported to be economically active.
