2. When will this happen for my child?

Usually both checks will be completed when your child is between 2 years and 2 years 6 months. The Progress Check at 2 years may be completed at a later date if your child starts pre-school, day nursery or with a childminder when they are over 2 years 6 months.

3. What do I need to do?

To attend the 2 year old check with your Health Visitor and if your child is already attending pre-school, day nursery or a childminder to share this information with your child’s key person.

If your child has a statutory 2 year Progress Check in place, place a copy in your Red book and share with your Health Visitor at the next contact.

4. Where and who will complete the health review part?

You will receive a questionnaire and an invitation to meet with your Health Visitor at your local Children’s Centre. Please complete the questionnaire and take to the meeting. You will share the information with the Health Visitor who will complete the Health Review. The document goes in your child’s Red book – to be shared with your provider as appropriate.

5. Where and who will complete the statutory 2 year progress check part?

This will be completed in partnership with you and your child’s key person if your child attends pre-school, day nursery or a childminder. Once completed the document goes in your child’s Red book and is shared with your Health Visitor.

6. What if my child has Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) or needs additional help?

The Two Year Old Review will ensure that information is shared with all relevant professionals and any appropriate support is in place. The Health Visitor will contact a child’s support service practitioner e.g. Portage Home Visitor, or specialist teacher, or other, if they are already working with the child, to plan to conduct the review together. As a parent you are key to sharing information between professionals.

7. What if my child attends 2 settings?

The setting your child attends most frequently will complete the Statutory Progress Check at 2.

8. What if I have not been invited to a Health Review?

Please contact your Health Visitor as soon as possible to arrange an appointment.

9. What if I have missed the Health review?

Your Health Visitor will follow this up and offer another appointment.
