Computer grants for low income families
Low-income families in York could receive a grant for a laptop and broadband connection, thanks to a new government initiative.
The scheme is open to
- children in school years three to nine who are entitled to free school meals
- those caring for fostered or Looked after Children
- families receiving certain benefits:
- income-based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income Support
- Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and an income of less than £16,040
- income-based Employment Support Allowance
- the Guaranteed element of the Pension Credit
City of York Council is urging families who may be eligible for the Home Access grant to apply as soon as possible.
If you have already had HA or CfP grants you will not be eligible.
The initiative aims to help low-income families to get access to a computer and the internet to get online at home by giving them a grant to buy a computer and/or a minimum of one years’ internet access.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the scheme should visit Home Access or call 0333 200 1004.
