The term drug refers to a range of substances such as: alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, amphetamines, LSD, GHB and solvents (gasses/glue)
You may need to know about drugs or booze because you are thinking of trying them. You might be worried about a mate or a relation who is drinking or taking drugs.
Even if you never drink or take drugs, this web page could help you out. With a school project. Or looking after a mate on a night out.'

A couple of common risks
- You can get a hang over from drinking too much alcohol.
- You may end up feeling sick and dizzy from smoking Cannabis – this is called ‘throwing a whitey’
Two serious risks
- You could drink so much alcohol that you die – booze is a poison.
- Smoking cannabis can cause mental illness– especially if any of your family members have had mental health problems
Other than choosing not to take drugs/alcohol at all, there is no such thing as safe drug use. There are agencies that you can contact for advice on how reduce the dangers from taking drugs/alcohol.
If you are worried about your drug/alcohol use or you are taking them to cope with other problems such as being bullied at school please get help.
