14+ (Key Stage 4)
In Years 10 and 11, there is a core group of subjects that most of you will take: English, Maths and Science (usually at GCSE). What else you do will depend on:
- Your interests
- Your abilities
- What's available
Here are the options that your school/college may offer:
- GCSEs
- Foundation learning
- Other qualifications
- Diplomas
- Work-related learning
- Young Achievers (formerly Young Apprenticeships)
- BTEC Level 2 (eg Applied Science)
While you’re studying in Year 10 or Year 11, you will usually get the opportunity to do some work experience.
Hints and tips
- Talk to your teachers and Personal Adviser about which options are right for you. They're there to help you!
- Read your school’s “Options” booklet carefully, and talk about it at home.
- Don't choose a subject just because you like your current teacher – you may not have the same teacher next year.
- Choose subjects you will enjoy – not just because your friends plan to take them.
- Your school will have an information/options evening – it's a good chance to find out more
