Jobs with training
If you decide to go straight into a job when you leave school, look for an Apprenticeship or an employer who will offer you training and qualifications, which will help you to progress and get better pay when you are older.
Some important things to know:
- Getting a job with training will usually mean you have better promotion prospects and higher wages in the longer term
- Gaining qualifications and skills whilst in a job enables you to progress further in your work and adult life
- If going along for a job interview, talk to the employer about what training you could receive and any qualification or accreditation on offer
- By 2015, young people will be required to participate in training until at least their 18th birthday (this will be known as Raising The Participation Age)
- A job with training can also include part-time education, volunteering for more than 20 hours a week or being self-employed
