Work and training
Looking for work takes time and effort, and it's good to get as much help as you can. You need to know what you’d like to do and whether or not it’s something that’s realistic. Before you start applying for vacancies think first about what you would like out of a job. For information on the choices available to young people, jobs areas, including what the work could involve and the typical entry requirements see the Job Profiles on Next Step.
Where can you get help locally:

Employers want people who are flexible, who can learn and who can cope with change.
Therefore you will need to be able to demonstrate employability skills such as:
- The ability to work as part of a team
- Good practical skills in Maths, English and ICT
- The desire to keep on learning and participate in training
- A positive attitude to work and be able to follow instructions
When starting to look for work and training remember:
- Plan ahead as finding a job is a job in itself
- Use personal networks such as family, friend, neighbours
- Use job search websites
- Consider updating your skills and gaining experience through volunteering
