29 Castlegate

Castlegate is a centre for young adults, aged 16–25, who are looking for information, advice or support on a range different issues, from working to sexual health.

We’re a friendly team made up of people from Connexions and the people who used to be a YES on Bootham, but who all work together to give you more support under one roof.

What do we do?

29 Castlegate, in Castlegate (the place near Clifford’s Tower), is a place for young adults to come and get information, advice and support on a number of different issues. Here’s how it works:

We have a drop in which has Information workers and Connexions workers. This is open to you anyone and you don’t need an appointment. Here we can help you with things like housing, benefits, getting into work, building CVs etc, and we have a sexual health service, offering things like free condoms and pregnancy testing.

Careers Guidance

We have a Careers Guidance service for 16–19 year olds, for anyone who has ever wondered things like:

• “Which college course is right for me?”
• “I want to get into engineering, how do I do it?”
• “What qualifications do I need to become a Nurse?”

Our careers advisers are trained and have lots of experience of helping people to make decisions about progressing into work and learning and can help you along the way into your careers. This kind of help is by appointment and can be available outside of our drop in hours.

Counsellors

We also have counsellors here who can help people with their emotional and mental health. This service is by appointment and is confidential; it is a chance to talk through issues with trained and experienced staff, who are also very nice people.
