Improve Communication and Care for People Living with Dementia

A new online resource to improve communication and care for people living with dementia was launched at the University of Worcester on Thursday (April 23). Stand By Me, a free e-learning course, has been developed by Skills for Health, the University of Worcester Association for Dementia Studies and key partners, with funding from the Department of Health, and is aimed at health and social care practitioners from all settings to help them deliver high quality, person-centred care to people living with dementia and their families.

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) website has a range of open access e learning opportunities, including the Open Dementia Programme which has a range of modules relating to dementia giving an in depth introduction to dementia and living with the disease. Care of Elders with Alzheimer's Disease and other Major Neurocognitive Disorders

We would like to share the below details of a free online course which commences on 14th October for 5 weeks, with a workload 3 – 5 hours a week.

This is a state-of-the-art course designed to accommodate the learning needs of health professionals including nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational and speech therapists, health care administrators and recreational therapists. It is also intended for students who are interested in learning more about dementia care. The 5 units provide an overview of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias and the impact on quality-of-life issues for individuals with dementia and their families. Emphasis will be placed on exploring innovations in care through an ecological model of dementia-care  throughout the trajectory of the disorder.
