We are lucky to live in a city with low unemployment compared to many other cities in the UK. There are 5,800 businesses, 117,000 jobs and 14,100 self employed people. Here are some of the major employers in York. Most employment is in small or medium sized companies so don't forget them when looking for work!

York has lots of people with skills that employers are looking for however, some local employers report that they find it difficult to find people with the the right level of technical skill and the right employability skills. So if you want to do well in the local job market think about training and developing the skills that employers are  looking for.
