What do I need to work children?
In order to work with children you will need to complete a CRB check
When you begin work, you will complete the YorOK Induction and local induction. The induction will provide you with information relating to the children and young people’s workforce in York, and your local induction will provide you with information relating to your particular setting.
You will also undertake mandatory training to meet the requirements of the setting. This will include health and safety, child protection and first aid.
You will then be able to apply this knowledge within your day to day work.
What could happen in my future career?
You may wish to do formal qualifications including level 2, 3 and 4. There are also Foundation Degrees available and an Early Years Professional Status.
Whatever you choose, Early Years is a valued professional career with clear pathways for you to achieve qualifications and develop personally.
I’m not very good at English will this matter?
Talk to employers and your local college, they will be honest and will be able to help with essential skills of literacy and numeracy and also English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).
Will I have to pay for my own training?
Your employer may pay for your training through an apprenticeship scheme. Learning is seen as personal all-round development.
You will be expected to contribute in some way, perhaps by using your own time to study and take some responsibility for your continuous professional development.
