The introduction of the new Ofsted inspection framework in September 2009 gives a greater emphasis to Extended Services, and particularly in the area of partnership working.  Below is a list of resources that we hope will be useful in supporting you in completing your SEF and preparing for future Ofsted inspections.

Children in Need in childcare (March 2010) - small-scale survey identifying some of the factors that contribute to good outcomes for children in need, in a range of different types of early years and childcare settings.

Committee-run registered childcare provision (2009) - Ofsted factsheet with important information about the roles and responsibilities of committee members who provide childcare.

Good practice in extended schools (June 2009) - short survey to examine effective practice in a small sample of the most successful extended schools, serving the full core offer to disadvantaged communities.

Inspecting Childcare guidance (January 2010) - guidance for Ofsted inspectors on childcare managed by the governing body.

Inspecting extended school provision (September 2010) - guidance for Ofsted inspectors on Extended Services in schools.

Learning together: promoting social responsibility and community cohesion (February 2010) - survey that was conducted to evaluate how a sample of local authorities and education providers knew and understood their local communities.

Regulating play-based provision (2009) - Ofsted factsheet explaining Ofsted's role in regulating play-based provision.

The evaluation schedule for schools - (July 2009) guidance and grade descriptors for the judgements that inspectors will report on when inspecting schools in England, from September 2009.

Workforce reform in schools; has it made a difference? (January 2010) - an evaluation of changes made to the school workforce 2003-2009 (the fifth report by Ofsted to evaluate the effectiveness of workforce reform).
