Mentoring
Interested in helping other social workers through the process of post qualifying social work education and training?
Eligibility*
Open to all social workers with a minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience.
Commitment from Children and Families**
To provide you with relevant training and/or support in undertaking this role.
To pay you a fee for undertaking:
- Mentoring of PQ consolidation candidates
- Mentoring of NQSW candidates
- Practice assessing PQ Higher Specialist candidates
- Practice verifying PQ Advanced candidates
Payment will normally be made in a lump sum once the entire mentoring commitment has been fulfilled.Details of fees payable are available from the Training and Development Officer (Children and Families)
Expectations of individuals***
For NQSWs, to provide 12 monthly mentoring sessions of up to 2 hours duration. Total of up to 24 hours commitment.
For PQ consolidation candidates, to provide 4 x 1.5 hour mentoring sessions. To undertake 1 observation session and associated write up (up to 3 hours). To attend mentor training session at the university (up to 7 hours). Total commitment of up to 16 hours.
For PQ Higher Specialist candidates, to undertake 2 to 3 observations and associated write up (up to 9 hours). To provide 7 x 1.5 hour mentoring sessions between October and May (up to 10.5 hours). To mark the student’s portfolio, to write a report and to liaise with the tutor (up to 8 hours). To possibly attend a Practice Assessment Panel meeting (up to 5 hours). Total commitment of between 27.5 hours and 32.5 hours.
For PQ Advanced candidates, to provide up to 12 hours of supervision and mentoring support (including writing a short report) between October and May. Possibly to attend the university if a candidate is being assessed on a practice presentation (up to 7 hours). Mark portfolio and liaise with tutor (up to 3 hours). Total commitment of between 15 hours and 22 hours.
