The Storycatch Project
In 2010 Creativity, Culture & Education (CCE) commissioned five local authorities: Birmingham, Ealing, Haringey, Manchester and York, to capture stories about the delivery and engagement with 0-5 year olds through creative and cultural activities.
The project aims to celebrate the good work that can be replicated or adapted by other professionals, parents and carers so that good ideas and practices can be shared and spread.
Cultural institutions, childminders, nurseries, children’s centres, schools and community groups were all approached to put forward their innovative and inspirational approaches to delivering creative or cultural activities with 0-5s. The selected stories are focused on activities such as story-telling, visual arts and crafts, painting and performing arts that took place in a variety of settings.
As part of this project all the participants were trained in the use of a technique that enabled stories to be told from an individual’s personal experience – ‘The Story Catchers Framework’. More information can be requested from Julie@irvingallan.com.
The stories from the five areas have now been collated into a national resource that will be used to benefit the children who spend time with early years workers and carers, or indeed parents.
York and North Yorkshire Story Capturing Project
Nine stories of projects or programmes have been captured to illustrate different and inspirational approaches in a range of different settings. Each of our stories demonstrates good practice and imaginative and creative approaches to working with 0-5s.
The York and North Yorkshire stories include:
The Stories
All of the stories captured by the five participating cities will create an exciting new resource through the Creative Culture Education website.
