‘IT’S ARTY TIME’

‘It’s Arty Time’ is an art club for 1-3 year olds. It was established in October 2009 by Jo Pullar, artist and founder of Space 109, and Claire Wilton, a volunteer and mum.

Arty Time happens every Monday from 9.30 – 11.00 at Space 109, a community art space in the centre of York. It continues through the school holidays, when older siblings of regular Arty Timers are welcome.

A typical morning starts with colouring and drawing (from week to week using a variety of crayons, pencils, chalks, pastels) at a low table surrounded by comfy chairs, while we wait for everybody to arrive. If we have time at this point, parents get a cup of tea! When the kids start to get restless we move over to the big table and hard chairs, where there is usually enough space for kids and parents to sit round all-together. The activity usually involves glue or paint (the toddlers’ favourite materials) and sometimes both.

At around 10.30 we organise drinks and biscuits for the children. After that, the children can go back to colouring, continue with the messy activity or chase each other around, as they please!
