School-Club-Links and the New School-Club-Links Framework.

A School-Club-Link is a link set up between a school (secondary or primary) and a sports/activity club. The club could be a voluntary or private sports club. The club could also be a physical activity organisation like dance or cheerleading as well as a sports club.

The link is the relationship between the school and club that promotes coordination of opportunities for school pupils both in and out of curriculum time. This could include taster sessions for pupils leading into club membership. It could also be the promoting of shared facility use. The link It could also be represented through club support at competitions and leadership opportunities.

This year a Framework has been written and launched in support of School-Club-Links in the City of York.

The Framework is a written guide that supports the delivery of a School-Club-Link. It is a tool designed to support existing School-Club-Links and develop new ones. The Framework also set the bar for excellent standards in School-Club-Links across the city.

The Framework

The areas that the Framework looks at are Accreditation which covers safeguarding your children, Provision of activities and Facility use and Roles and Responsibilities. The Framework also provides advice and information on Competition, Volunteers and Leadership, so that young people can really utilise opportunities provided by the links.

The Framework not only acts as a valuable tool for schools, and clubs, but it also enables both to gain recognition through a certification scheme. The certification scheme is a way of valuing the fantastic work that is already happening in the city. It is a scheme that will validate best practice and support club development. The School-Club-Links will be recognised with a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.
