Swift and easy access
“Swift and easy access” refers to when schools help pupils and families in accessing targeted and specialist services that they may benefit from. Schools will work closely with other statutory services and the voluntary and community sector to provide support for children and young people who have additional needs, such as behavioural difficulties, health issues, or emotional needs. Support for these needs can come from a variety of services, such as:
- speech and language therapy
- child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS)
- family support services
- intensive behaviour support
- counselling
- sexual health services
The services mentioned above may be near or on school sites, enabling children and young people to access support discreetly and conveniently. If the services are outside school, then schools will liaise with the agencies involved. Swift and easy access to such support can stop problems escalating and minimise any disruption to pupils’ learning. This kind of support may also help raise pupils’ levels of confidence, self-esteem and achievement.
