What is a Children’s Centre?

Sure Start Children’s Centres provide a range of services for children under five and their families. The multi agency services are based around a ‘core offer’ of integrated early learning, childcare, family support, health services, outreach services and access to training and employment advice.

The aims of the children’s centre programme are:

• The best start in life for every child
• Better opportunities for parents
• Affordable good quality childcare
• Stronger and safer communities
• Buildng on existing good practice

And so

• Determining good outcomes for children and their parents.

Where are they?

There are now 9 children’s centres in York which are grouped within the following localities (areas):

West Locality

• Hob Moor Children’s Centre 
• Westfield Children’s Centre 
• Carr Children’s Centre

North East Locality

• Clifton Children’s Centre
• Haxby Road Children’s Centre
• The Family Tree at New Earswick

South East Locality

• The Avenues Children’s Centre
• St Lawrence’s Children’s Centre
• Knavesmire Children's Centre

The children’s centres offer services to all children under the age of five and their families across the City. There are 9 children's centres and a mixture of satellite sites and outreach venues.
