Family Support

As Family Support Workers, previously Family Centre Workers at Holgate Family Centre, we work with families and children from birth to 10 years who need support in different areas. We are now based at Hob Moor Children’s Centre but work with families and children from a wider area covering the west of York.

The Family Support Team will usually only get involved with a family following a referral and an assessment by a Social Worker. We work with parents and carers on issues such as parenting and dealing with difficult circumstances like domestic abuse or drug and alcohol misuse. We also provide support with practical areas of parenting such as keeping a safe and hygienic family home. Our individual work with children focuses on helping them cope with difficult times in their lives such as moving into care or a family crisis. In addition to working individually we also run groups that focus on specific issues.

As Family Support Workers we are part of the Locality Children’s Centre Team and will have many more opportunities to develop the service. We have been working in partnership on special groups and community projects and we hope to have more opportunities to work together and use the new facilities in the area to offer more support for families and children.
