Children and Young People's Plan 2007 - 2010

This is the second Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) for the City of York. It was produced by YorOK, the Children's Trust, which is a partnership of everybody in the city who works closely with children and young people.

The main purpose of the plan is to provide a clear sense of direction for everybody working to improve outcomes for children and young people in the city. However, it has another purpose, which is to help young people understand what it is that they can reasonably expect the city to do for them and how they might make a contribution themselves.

This plan replaces and updates both the Children and Young People's Plan 2005 - 2008, and the Children's Services Plan 2006 - 2009 produced last year, and it will be up-dated every twelve months.

Updated December 2007

An updated version of the CYPP has been produced in December 2007 as part of the Joint Area Review process.

Joint Area Review 2008

The City of York’s recent Joint Area Review (JAR) evaluated how local services contribute to the well-being of children and young people growing up in the city. During the review Ofsted focused on children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and children who are either looked after or require safeguarding. Ofsted also considered service management and the capacity of the council and its partners to improve further.

The review evaluated the contribution made by not only the council but by its partners too, such as schools and colleges, the Primary Care Trust, health centres, the voluntary and community sector and the police.

The review took place in two stages; the first an analysis stage, where recorded evidence was scrutinised, and the second a two-week fieldwork stage, where inspectors met children and young people and those who deliver services for them. At the same time, the council underwent a Comprehensive Performance Assessment and judgements from the Joint Area Review fed into this process.
